Majella Bess Loughran is a visual artist, painter, multidisciplinary performer, director, and choreographer of live performance. Originally from Belfast, Ireland and now based in Los Angeles, she is best known for her work as a dance performer and choreographer with Diavolo: Architecture in Motion and Life and Trust in NYC. A true maker at heart, Majella has always been drawn to working with her hands—exploring texture, color, movement, and emotion across many different forms.

She’s been painting for as long as she’s been dancing. Even while touring, rehearsing, or building performance work, she’s always found time to draw and paint—sometimes on canvas, sometimes on walls, and sometimes just for herself. Painting has become a steady thread throughout her creative life—a grounding, joyful practice that helps her process and express the things that live beyond language.

Majella has painted large-scale sets in scene shops and created custom backdrops and hand-painted walls for photoshoots. Her paintings are intuitive and layered, often abstract, and rooted in emotion, physicality, and personal experience. Whether she’s building a performance or working on a canvas, her art is all about energy, texture, and connection.

With a growing collection of original works and commissions, Majella is excited to share her paintings more publicly—offering select pieces for sale, accepting custom work, and inviting others into this vibrant and deeply personal side of her creative world.
